Why do we Run?

Why do we inflict such torture on ourselves? The pain of a beating heart and heavy breath. The soreness of our muscles and feet. To overcome the heat in your throat and weight in your stomach. As we push our bodies to run further, faster, against the clock or against the weather. Taking on the small part of the world we navigate at speed.

To avoid people, dogs and their walkers, traffic and cyclists. But giving the fellow runner a nod of the head.

To run up hills and across bridges. Around parks or through villages.

Running is a competition between mind and physique. To endure weakness so it turns into strength. To turn energy into euphoria. Targeting miles so that they turn into minutes. Embracing the wind in our face as we make the final excruciating push to the finish line.

To overcome the daunting challenge we face from our first steps.

We run to grow and explore our limits.
To face pain is to be a runner.
